Wives and Husbands take note. You may be able to enjoy dinner with your spouse on draft day after all.
Len Pasquarelli of ESPN is reporting that the NFL Competition Committee is looking at a possible proposal that would shorten the NFL draft. The proposal, should it actually be “proposed” and then enacted, would reduce the time of round 1 to 10 minutes, round 2 to 7 minutes, and the remaining rounds would stay at 5.
This is great news for those fans who felt the wrath of their spouses after a 6 hour plus marathon called the first round this past April. It will be especially welcomed by Miami Dolphins fans, who had to stew over the Ted Ginn pick for 4 of those hours just to see who they were taking in round 2.
I for one will be really please if this happens. Lets face it, teams don’t need 15 minutes to call the player they are taking, decide on which trade offer is better, and then draft someone that no one really expected them to draft anyways.
The only real team that this proposal would effect, is the Minnesota Vikings who have a hard enough time getting their pick to the Commissioner in 15 minutes. And then some.
Of course on the downside, we wont get to see any more QB’s escorted to the Commissioners private room. Or the look on their girlfriend’s faces.
