Phins claim CB Derrick Johnson off waivers

Johnson, a 6th round draft pick of the Niners in 2005, played in a total of 5 games combined for both the Texans and the Falcons after being cut prior to last season by the Niners.

Johnson spent the last 5 games of the season on IR with a broken arm. With the recent surgery to Andre Goodman, Johnson was likely brought in as a form of insurance. Although Johnson could make the squad as a special teams player, it is unlikely he will contribute much in the defensive backfield.

In his first season as a 49er rookie, Johnson played in 14 games and recorded 7 passes defensed, a fumble recovery, which he ran back for a TD, and 36 tackles. He also recorded one sack.
