Miami Dolphins defensive lineman, Fred Evans was arrested in the morning hours in Southbeach after an altercation with authorities that resulted in what CBS is referring to as multiple felonies.
Evans started 1 game last year for the Dolphins. Evans reportedly forced himself into a cab and after refusing to leave the taxi was tasered twice after a scuffle with the responding police. One officer was bitten on the wrist while the other officer suffered bruises and scrapes to her knee.
Evans has been charged with multiple counts of battery on a police officer, resisting law enforcement with violence, and single counts of intoxication and trespassing violations as well.
Head coach Cam Cameron released a statement that said, “We are aware Fred Evans was arrested this morning. We will not condone this type of behavior. I assure everyone, it will be dealt with very seriously.“
Commissioner Roger Goodell has imposed tough penalties on NFL players who have had brush-ins with the law. Evans will likely face at minimum an 8 game suspension if not more, in addition to any team related penalties. It would be hard to fathom that Evans would face anything less than 8 games considering that the charges are felonies and were committed against police officers.
Evans was a seventh-round draft pick in 2006.
