1st Day standouts

by Dolphins

It was only the first day of camp, but still, camp is camp and camp means football has returned to the world of Miami Dolphins fans…and if I could find a way to say camp is camp a few more times I would. But I camp…can’t sorry.

Brandon Fields – The rookie punter drew quite a few raised eye-brows when his kicks soared at times to 70 yards. YES, I said 70. It was reported by at least one media member that you “did not need to read a jersey number to see who was punting”. In reference to the fact that Fields out punted Flinn by 15 and sometimes 20 yards.
This kid could be a steal in the 7th round. Already he is drawing comparisons Dolphins great Reggie Roby…who I still can’t believe has passed.

Ted Ginn – Believe it or not, his speed was the showcase on the field yesterday and he showed that he can in fact catch. Snagging a high throw at one point in the endzone with only his left hand. He will obviously be watched, lets see if it continues.

Lorenzo Booker – If this kid does’nt develop into a star I will be surprised. O.k., I won’t be, he is a rookie and the Dolphins have yet to get into the actuall portion of serious hitting. Still, Booker again demonstrated some serious moves leaving Channing Crowder on one play throwing his hands into the air during 1 on 1 drills while Booker skirted into the endzone. On another play, he left the defender going one way while he went the other.
So far, Booker is drawing the most verbal praises from the veterans.

The not so good:

John Beck – struggled with accuracy and held on to the ball way too long at times. He overthrew quite a few receivers and his timing is way off. Consider it nerves. He started off the rookie camp the same way. He will get better after he mentally settles down.

Trent Green – He didn’t do much, but he did fumble a snap exchange and throw an interception. To his credit, he still has a lot of zip on his passes and he doesn’t hold the ball long. Something that he and the receivers will have to get down in order to have success.
