It seems that the Miami Dolphins are playing physical. Practice yesterday turned into some thumping and grunting as the players got used to full pads. Here are some Quotes from day 2 as well as some of the practice highlight notes as well.
Quote of the day belongs to Channing Crowder:
”Fans will start cheering like he just broke for 80 yards,” Crowder said in regards to long runs by the RBs. (they are not supposed to hit and let the RB go through them) “‘So we say, `OK, we’ll just knock the crap out of him.’ Fans don’t like that. Fans don’t cheer for the defense.”
Jason Taylor called portions of the practice sloppy but said that was because it was the first real physical practice. He said, ”Guys will be a lot more happy to stay off the ground as they get a little sore, so it’ll work out.” In terms of the physicality getting out of hand.
The Dolphins have yet to see the “Oklahoma” drill as afternoon practice was moved into the bubble due to weather. Coach Cameron did not want to have any player hurt on the turf inside.
The offensive line still has LJ Shelton and Rex Hadnot both working with the 2nd units while Drew Mormino and Anthony Alabi are with the first team. In addition Cleo Lemon took reps with the first team unit while Green played second team.
John Beck is still struggling, but that is expected. Green threw another pick on his 2nd play. But overcame towards the end and finished well. Cleo Lemon looked really sharp and he and Marty Booker connected several times down field. In addition, Lemon hit many receivers right in stride.
Samson Satelle is learning quickly as he is getting manhandled by Keith Traylor in one on one drills. Ronnie Brown is not seeing much day light behind the Oline.
So far, everything should be expected to some degree. This is the 2nd practice and the first in full pads after a long off-season. With changes to the Oline and especially 2 rookies on the Oline, it is expected to be rough at the start. Over the next few weeks we should start seeing the improvement that I think will come.
