It was suggested that I write my thoughts on the subject matter for this weeks ATW. The question is, “what will you be watching the most this training camp?“.
I have the answers to that question posted from various Miami Dolphin fan sites. So now I will oblige the reader who suggested I do it as well.
I took the time to do a training camp breakdown on this site, position by position. So in a way, I have a decent idea of what is important to me. So I will break this down in cop-out fashion and anyone reading can feel free to leave a comment on this posting.
1: I believe the best pure battle will be at WR. I really want to see how David Sutton and Kerry Reed perform. This is the one area that I will be watching the most. For no other reason than it could be the best positional competition.
2: The offensive line is probably the worst unit on the team. Yes, worse than our defensive secondary. The Dolphins offense will not achieve a fraction of the success it could if the oline does not play to even marginal success. The issues of Rex Hadnot and LJ Shelton playing on the 2nd unit is perplexing, considering that injured Anthony Alabi and rookie Drew Mormino are on the 1st unit. From a pure concern point of view, this has to be the spot that needs to show the most improvement.
3: Brandon Fields. I can’t believe that I would put a punter on any list, but booming kicks and loads of hang-time? That is something to watch. If the Dolphins offense can not get the line figured out, Fields could see a lot more time on the field…..as good as he might be, that is still not good.
4: The rest of the teams individual positons have varying degrees of competition but mostly in terms of the back-up spots. The camp is here and I will of course watch the progression of the QBs, however, I will be more interested to see how they perform in the pre-season contests as opposed to now. That is when we will know if all of this was worth it to begin with.
