Ever wonder what the first dividends are that you get from guaranteeing $20 million dollars is?
Joey Porter says that he is “targeting the season opener” for a return…which means he “may be” available to play. 20 mill please.
Porter who recently had his knee scoped is saying things like “long season”, “in the past”, and my all time favorite cliche’ “one day at a time”. Slogans that point to him hoping to be ready rather than guaranteeing it. Porter has also stated that his past “arthroscopic scopes” have taken 3-4 weeks to heal. He should be right on target.
“I took time off and when I came to training camp the pain never really went away,” Porter said. “In the past I had a couple of scopes and I’ve been back around that 3-4 week area.”
Just in case you think I was making that up. In all honesty, when it comes to Joey Porter I have a hard time writing anything remotely derogatory about him in fear of his fist flying through my “Viewsonic” flat-screen monitor and taking a chunk out of my chin.
Seriously though, this is still not a problem that I tend to worry about. I have had the same scope procedure that he has had, as has many other fans and we all know that it is simply a matter of strengthening and conditioning to return. It is nothing remotely compared to serious knee surgery.
The problem is that Porter will be dealing with this issue for the rest of his career with Miami, it is a forgone conclusion. His knee will swell, it will get sore, it will ache in the morning and more at night, especially during game week. This will not be the last scope of his knee. So be prepared.
In the meantime, target Washington all you want Joey, but like the “cliche’” says, “It’s a long season and we need you for the long haul not the short.” Or something like that. Either way, look for him to be more than ready to go come September.
Oh, and Joey, please be very careful getting in and out of things around Davie, we don’t “Kneed” you to be another Hadnot…watch those golf carts will ya!
