Thomas, Roth Out

Matt Roth - photo courtesy: bestsportsphotos.comThe Miami Dolphins made one thing clear today, neither Zach Thomas nor Matt Roth will play this Sunday in Philly, they are both outDerrick Pope will line up at the weakside linebacker spot where Channing Crowder calls home, Crowder will move back into the middle, and to replace Roth, 7th round draft pick Rodrique Wright will get his first start at the defensive end position.

Crowder has played almost entirely in the middle of the LB corp this season with the head injuries that Thomas has suffered through.

Wright however has a chance to shine.  A late pick, the 2nd of 3 7th rounders, Wright has been filling in for injured DT, Vonnie Holliday.  He started 4 consecutive games in his absence.  Ironically, Wright is not the only 7th round pick seeing extended playing time as a starter.  Derrick Pope was taken as the 2nd of 3 7th rounders as well, in the 2004 draft.

Zach is still suffering severe migraine headaches that were sustained in a rear-end auto accident following the New England game.  The NE game marked his return following a concussion he suffered in week 2.  Matt Roth pulled his groin last weekend and will need more time to let the injury recover.

  1. It would be nice to see Rodrique step up.  We could use a few 7th rounders starting to contribute…..no…..let me re-phrase this…..we could use a few DRAFT picks from the past few years contribute!!!

    LOL…yeah, that is so true.

  3. Davey says:

Am I the only one that remembers that Wright was considered a top-10 pick before his shoulder injury?

  4. Brian Miller says:

Nope, but you know, he still was a 7th rounder and he still needs to perform.  Steal or no steal, his production will define that.

  5. Davey says:

    Yes, that’s true.

I didn’t mean that he didn’t have to perform. My point was just that he took a big fall from supposed top-10 pick to a 7th rounder who’s fighting to keep his spot in the D-Line rotation.
