So, you’re John Beck. You’ve just been handed the keys to an NFL offense and this is what is awaiting you.
- At Philly (A Blitz-happy defense, even tougher environment)
– At Pittsburgh (Monday Night game against a top-5 team and a team that hasn’t lost on MNF since ‘92)
– The Jets (The one game that everyone says you should win)
– At Buffalo (A place where Miami usually struggles against an annoying team)
– Baltimore (Good luck against that spleen crunching defense)
– At New England (Have mercy Lord)
– Cincy (Maybe the last chance at getting a win this season. The pressure will be insane in that one if that’s the case)
Oh, and he has to do this without the star running back, a defense that gets scored on more than Kim Kardashian and with some possible Ricky Williams distractions.
I mean, it doesn’t get tougher than going to Philly, going to Pitt on Monday night, going to New England and I don’t even want to think about the Cincy game and what could be hanging in the balance there.
But on the flip side, we get to see what he’s made of. It may sound like a tired cliche but it’s true. If he can get through these 7 games without getting crushed mentally or physically, he’ll be prepared for whatever will come at him down the road in his NFL career.
Seriously, if he can handle this, he can stand in a huddle with amputee midgets while having to face a defense consisting of 11 heavily armed convicts and he’d still not be rattled.
Either way, I’m excited and I can’t wait to see him running this offense. I’m keeping it realistic and I’m not expecting him to come in and be Dan Marino, but I really want to see him and Ginn work together.
Cameron and Mueller had this plan back in April and tomorrow we’ll finally see it in action. For a season that has had one disappointment after the other, there’s finally something to look forward to.

I agree. Hell I wouldn’d have cared one bit had Beck started against New England in week 7. The season was over by that point anyway. I’m also not of the opinion that you shouldn’t put a rookie into a loosing situation for fear of shaddering his confidence….These are grown Men, and now professionals….They should want to test themselves against the best. If Beck plays well, then fine….If he struggles. Well thats fine too. One player isnt going to help this season. I hope fans are not so quick to call for another QB in the draft should Beck not play "Marino like"…. I’m excited to see what this guy has to offer. Our O-line is getting better with every game. But. They may need to "crank it up a notch" to see this guy doesnt get the NFL welcome by opposing defences.
I think you know as well as I do Corey that fans are like that. At least some. Take a stroll around a few forums after this weekend and read what they are saying. Here is the No Win situation that you will find.1: Beck plays well – Cameron is a screw up for not putting him in a long time ago, maybe had we started Beck all along, we would be fighting for the playoffs.2: Beck plays bad – Well, we now have to draft a QB in round 1…Bring on Brohm…Cameron and Mueller need to be fired NOW for passing on Quinn.Sad as that sounds, it is true. As for Beck not starting earlier, I wish he would have, but considering that was not Cam’s plan, and he didn’t receive any 1st team reps until the bye, I’m fine with it. I think we will see Beck struggle today, but there will be little things that he does that make you go…"hmmm, maybe this kid can be the real deal." Or at least I hope so…LOL
You hit it right on the head Brian. It’s gotten to a point where coach Cam and Randy Mueller can’t do anything good for some of these fans..
If Beck plays well, you’ll hear that they wasted time by starting Lemon. If he’s bad, you’ll hear that they should have taken Quinn, that they should have kept Culpepper and that we have to take a qb again in the first round.
But yeah, I just want to see encouraging signs. I don’t expect 250 yards and 2 td’s and a win…but at least some encouraging signs.
