Ricky The Star…ter!

Ricky Williams - photo credit - Palm Beach PostAmazing that only a few months ago, Cam Cameron of the Miami Dolphins was avoiding not only media questions about Ricky Williams, but Ricky Williams as well.  Now, after only his first week of NFL practice in 18 months, Ricky Williams will be the star…ummm, starter tonight against Pittsburgh.

According to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, Ricky is the choice tonight because frankly, no one else is really healthy.

Jesse Chatman is still hobbling on his ankle, which appears to have worsened over the week rather than improve, and Patrick Cobbs is surely not the guy you want to turn to in a Monday night game against one of the NFLs’ best defenses.

Here is the catch, someone on the Phins roster will be out of a job later today.  The Dolphins will give up the roster exemption in order to activate Williams, leaving one member of the team on the unemployment line…or at least leaving General Manager Randy Mueller with finding a creative solution.

In any case, Ricky, who still has not tested positive for any illegal drugs since his last reinstatement, will be in charge of toting the rock.  Although many Dolphins fans will expect to see Ricky the former self, they are likely to see a RB who is trying to find some rythym in a game he hasn’t been apart of since 2003.

In other news, Matt Roth is out for the game with a groin injury and Zach Thomas is also out with the head injury.  Zach has made the trip with the team in order to visit his “neuro” specialist who is out of Pittsburgh.  Thomas is hoping to get cleared soon so that he can play this season.  Time is running out.

Derrick Pope, who was mysteriously hospitalized on Saturday, is back with the team and headed to Pitt with the rest of them.  No official word on whether he will or will not play.

Very excited about the Dolphins/Steelers game tonight! I kind of have mixed feelings about Ricky Williams coming back, you guys think he can make a difference? I personally think we will have a much stronger running game but i don't know if it will show against the steelers defense, they're tough. All I want is to win one game ONE! so we can get this "losers" label out of the way. I took NFL odds (http://www.wagerweb.com/sports-betting/nfl-odds.ht...) on Miami +16, I'm sure they will cover... games like this have been really close.
