Well, it has taken 14 games for me to give out my first game ball. An honor I wanted to dole out earlier, as no game balls are given out with Miami Dolphin losses. So, after todays’ 1st victory, comes todays’ first ball.
Jason Taylor.
Today, JT showed the leadership that he has shown in years past. A blocked field goal, 2 sacks, a critical tackle behind the line of scrimmage in overtime that dropped the Ravens further back on the field goal try. JT was all over the field and when he injured his foot, he made it back onto the field for the end of the game.
After the game, JT addressed the team. He told them he was proud of them, that they fought hard, something that the youngsters on this team needed to hear. Then, in true JT fashion, he awarded the game ball to head coach Cam Cameron.
Cameron and JT have had a rather rocky relationship that had become even more temultious in the last month. Today, at least for one game, the two managed to bury the hatchet. The post game embrace was one of elation. It was knowing that the pressure was no longer on the team to win, or the two of them to find an answer. It is what one win will do. For now, for the first time for many on this team, the Miami Dolphins are relishing a victory.
I have been critical of JT’s performance this year, no more I would assume that JT himself. Today, JT was the leader, the captain that fans have come to know him to be. Nice to have him back. Great game Mr. Taylor.
