I have mixed feelings on this signing. Parcells always seems to burn out on the job before it’s finished and I don’t want to be left high and dry by another big name. I can appreciate in all of this thought that Wayne Huizenga is a committed owner and is willing to put himself out there to make this franchise successful. As for what it means for the Dolphins, if Parcells does the job like Huizenga hopes he will I think that Miami is going to head in the right direction. I’m not sure I agree with Parcells’ sentiments about not taking backs in the first round or how he likes to build a defense, but he’s had success and I am not a football executive, so what do I know? I do feel bad for Randy and Cam as I think they’ll probably be on their way out. Randy never seems to have gotten the opportunity to really run the show, he had be the dummy GM with Saban and only really got to have his first real draft last April. Still, I think passing on Quinn and some of the other personnel moves that have been made may mean he’s gone.As for Cameron, give the guy a shot. I think maybe allowing him to just focus on his offense and taking even more responsibility off his shoulders may be good. He’s had to use Cleo Lemon, a bunch of back-up tailbacks and an ancient defense all year, this isn’t all his fault. I for one actually like the direction he takes his play-calling. He has some cojones and he goes for it one fourth and short which is really nice. I’d let him run the team, I’d keep Capers on. I’d just let the Tuna have the final say. Regardless, it can’t get worse than this year. I’m cautiously optimistic.-Pat

I can agree with some of that, especially about Parcells. I am leaning on tempered enthusiasm.  IF he does not actually fix this team and leaves, then we are further behind the ball then we are now.  Wayne would surely sell the team at that point and this team could surely be bottom feeders for the next 10 years.  I really think it is a matter of what Parcells puts into this.  The other thing about Bill is he has not been the GM but one time.  That was in NY where he had total control.  Needless to say, he did take the team to the Championship game, but his success can not be measured in a front office capacity, when he has never held the position.  Someone else will be the GM and someone else will be the coach.  Tempered enthusiasm for sure…for me.

The one thing no one’s really mentioning is that the presence of Parcells will entice FA’s who never would have signed with the Fins (Asomugha/Sanders, anyone?) to think twice about getting in on the ground floor

Very good point Guf.  Parcells also will not overpay for garbage either.

Well, Parcells better keep his paws off the Cowboys free agency list. I am sure he is illegally calling players now trying to entice them. I won’t stand for it. I am watching him like a hawk now. I’ve got sources working this hard. He won’t get one Cowboy free agent if I have anything to do with it. Not one.

LOL…Good thing they locked up Romo!

  7. Black Hornet says:

I think it’s a position that has needed filling since JJ left. We needed someone to be a buffer between the coach and the owner who would be ultimately responsible for all football decisions – the Dan Marino role that he felt uncomfortable with once he found out Wayne wanted him to fire Wanny if he saw fit (which a 2 year old would). Cam won’t be able to get away with his crappy playcalling with the spectre of Billy Parcells looking over his shoulder.

I think there will be some changes, to what degree I don’t know.  Like Hornet pointed out, there is finally at least a football guy again running the show.  Wayne, IMO, is a very good owner, but he needed someone to run the team, he has that now.  The only real question will be can BP right a ship that has been sinking for 10 years?
