The Dallas Cowboys owner had a few words for the newly departed and new Miami Dolphins GM…and they were very good. Jerry Jones spoke about the hiring of Jeff Ireland today and the reasons why he did not try and block Ireland from departing immediately.
- “Jones said he could have insisted that remain with until after the draft in April. But Jones said he was grateful to Huizenga for allowing Jason Garrett to go from the Dolphins’ coaching staff to the Cowboys a year ago without compensation.
“I didn’t want Jeff to lose this opportunity,” Jones said. “Plus, Wayne had the same attitude regarding Jason Garrett; he helped us get Jason Garrett in here while he was still under contract. Of course, I’ve got a good relationship with Bill. So this one fits real well. …
“This is a great opportunity for Jeff. It is, frankly, a good opportunity for us. I want people to see that if they come here and if they’ve got a good opportunity they can advance.””
As Jerry Jones made nice of the situation, it appears immenent now that Dolphins head coach Cam Cameron is about to walk out of the door…or tossed out. It appears, according to a couple of sources…who of course site unnamed sources…that Cameron was actually fired last night. Cameron was not reportedly seen around the training center today. An official announcement may come early tomorrow morning.
