The Miami Dolphins spent little time naming Tony Sparano their head coach, once Dallas was knocked out of the playoffs, now, it appears that Sparano is wasting little time as well. After only one day on the job, Sparano hired his first assistant coach, Oline coach Mike Maser.
Maser has been out of football for a year after being fired following the ’06 season with the Carolina Panthers. Injuries to a battered line was not enough to allow him to keep his job. However, Maser has 37 years coaching experience and is known to be a good teacher for young talent. Maser also has a Sparano/Parcells connection…if only indirectly.
Maser is from the North East the same as Sparano and the two worked together in Jacksonville under Parcells disciple Tom Coughlin. Sparano was the TE coach and Maser the Oline guy.
Currently two other coaches out of Dallas are still considering offers to join the Phins. Todd Bowles and Paul Pasqualoni are deciding on two routes. Either join Miami as top defensive coaches or stay in Dallas. Jerry Jones has offered both extensions and neither coach can officially join Miami until next Tuesday at the earliest.
Karl Dorrell has also been contacted about becoming the WR coach. Dorrell spent last season at UCLA as their head coach and was recently fired. Dorrell is mulling offers for the same job with both Kansas City and Denver. Dorrell worked as a WR coach in Denver before.
In other Miami Dolphins related news, Hudson Houck the former Oline coach for the Phins has signed with the Dallas Cowboys.
