Over 100 potential NFL rookies were interviewed by Jeff Ireland and his scouting staff and select coaches. With the Senior Bowl practices wrapped, Ireland and Co. have finished the week and headed home. They will watch the game on TV like the rest of us.
David Lee spent time breaking down the mechanics of the QB’s he saw, Matt Ryan was not one of them, but according to one local Miami reporter, the staff like what they see in Delawares’ Joe Flacco and Josh David Booty out of USC….a lot.
One potential draft pick out of LSU told a reporter that the Dolphins have gone crazy with their research of Glenn Dorsey, however, it is expected that the Phins will go crazy with their research on everyone they look to possibly draft at number 1 come April.
So as a long week of scouting, something Ireland has been doing his entire life, comes to a close in the “live” perspective, the task now falls to practice tapes, game tapes, and of course the declared underclassmen. Ireland may be home, but he is far from being at home.
In other news, while Ireland has been off trying to find the talent to put in front of HC Tony Sparano, TS has been working to fill his coaching staff. The Dolphins have in fact hired Karl Dorrell to be the WR’s coach, and now it looks like recently resigned Virginia Military Institute head coach Jim Reid will be the LB coach. The Phins retained George Edwards as the LB coach when he and Steve Hoffman survived the brutal firing of the rest of last years coaching staff. It is speculated that Edwards could be released or reasssigned and Hoffman is finding himself in a similar situation as well, although he likely will not be released.
