It appears that the 2nd current longest tenured Miami Dolphins draft pick (Jason Taylor) may have bottomed out. Yeremiah Bell, selected in the 6th round of the 2003 draft is set to enter free agency on Friday. Bell who had shown flashes of becoming a very solid Safety, met disaster last year when he tore his Achilles tendon in first week of the season.
Bell managed to survive the purging of Dave Wannstedt, Nick Saban, and Cam Cameron. He does not appear to be surviving the Jeff Ireland/Bill Parcells era. Bell will test the market and the Dolphins could still bring him back for a year. They will not likely invest money in a guy that has a tendency now of being injured. The Achilles was the third injury to cause Bell to miss playing time. The Dolphins may be looking toward Gibril Wilson out of New York to fill the need.
In other free agent issues related to the Phins, the agents for OG Rex Hadnot have still not spoken with the Dolphins and Rex is expected to hit the open market as well. It has been rumored that he is seeking a deal in the 5-6 million a year range. A Hadnot departure will leave only Jason Taylor and Vernon Carey on the roster as Miami draft picks prior to the 2004 draft…a mere 4 years ago.
