Phins Are On A Tear Today
I don’t think anyone could have predicted that the Phins would be this involved on day one of free agency. The Miami Dolphins are on a tear, and it’s not over yet. 2 things really quick and then you can continue to watch the previous blog entry for updates. The Dolphins will definitely become a 3-4 team on defense with the trade for Ferguson and the contract with Randy Starks. And number 2, the Phins are getting a lot younger in a hurry. Of the signings listed below only Ferguson was drafted prior to the 2004 season…in 1997. Here is a quick recap of the days contract agreements. Once again check back often to the blog below this one for the updates as they are announced.
Ernest Wilford – WR – Jacksonville. Sean Ryan – TE – NYJ. Randy Starks – DT/DE - Tennessee. Justin Smiley – OG – SF. Jason Ferguson – NT – Via Trade – Dallas. Reggie Torbor – LB – NYG. Calvin Pace – currently negotiating – DE/LB – Arizona.

A huge advantage in running a 3-4 defense is that there will be more linebackers on the roster than defensive linemen. That will give us more guys to play on special teams, which was clearly a problem for us last year.
February 29th, 2008 at 5:17 pmWhat I like is that Parcells and Ireland are making good improvements in a lot of areas rather than looking to upgrade one or two positions with big name FAs. They haven’t signed the best players individually, but they signed the ones who will help the most collectively.
February 29th, 2008 at 5:28 pm100 percent agree. What these guys are buying are players coming off their rookie contracts, showed a lot of promise and who have not yet reached their potential…and it seems they are all 4 and 5 year deals with minimal guarantees. Thats good football buisness.
February 29th, 2008 at 5:33 pmCongrats, Brian. I wish I was in your shoes today
Damn Chiefs, er, Cheaps!!

March 1st, 2008 at 12:18 amit has been one helluva day thats for sure.
March 1st, 2008 at 1:05 amI’m truly sorry to see he and Zach go, but at least they’ll
have a chance at a Ring next year.
Too bad they are not about 3 years younger. From the moves that Parcells and
company are making we are finally building a solid foundation for our
team. IMO, we will be contenders in 2-3 years.
The picks we get for JT will help soften the blow for me..lol
