Booker Back In ChiTown

Marty Booker - Getty ImagesIt was one of the worst eras in Miami Dolphins history.  The man calling the shots had as much knowledge of trading as the doorknob leading to a womens bathroom.  The trade was simple, Adawale Ogunleye as pro-bowl DE for Veteran WR Marty Booker and a 3rd round pick.  On paper it looks fine, but the Phins could have used Ogun…they could have drafted a WR, say Anquan Boldin, and instead of spending a 3rd round pick on a player who might still be on the team, they traded it to the Rams for RB Lamar Gordon, who was put on IR in year one and cut before year two.  Booker would not go to the Pro-bowl and in fact, would be an overpaid (3 mill per year) number 2 wr who had his own bouts with injuries.

Well, today that trade has broughth Marty full circle as he returns to the Chicago Bears.  Where not so oddly enough, Ogunleye still works the end spot, less productive, but still there and still a part of a Chicago defense that until last year was very good.  I suppose this is fitting.

Well, considering that Vernon Gholston clearly is the most athletic and talented edge pass rusher in the draft (with the numbers to prove it – look at his college production – 14 sacks last year for one) and he ATE Jake Long for lunch – Long didn’t belong on the field with the guy two years in a row, along with the fact that Parcells has a history of favoring this type of player – he did it with Willie McGinest, he did it with John Abraham, and he did it with DeMarcus Ware.   The pick is Vernon Gholston guys – period.  However, I believe what happens is some team will be forced to trade up for Ryan (Atlanta, Kansas City, Baltimore, NY jets maybe – but most likely Atlanta)  and we take the best remaining between Gholston and Long.  Clearly Gholston should be on the list – and he should be on the list BEFORE Jake Long is – especially considering the depth at tackle in this draft.
