So it wasn’t enough that a few media guys bought into the PFT report this morning about Jason Taylor retiring. Apparently quotes like “I need to find a pair of leg warmers that fit” is not enough to think that just maybe it was an April fools joke.
Ethan Skolnick of the Sun-Sentinel is reporting that he overheard Jeff Ireland on the phone with someone asking if they had “seen PFT”? According to Skolnick, Ireland was asked by a reporter who bought into the hoax about JT’s impending retirement. Ireland said he would have to look into it.
Two thoughts come to mind in this matter. The question is a simple one. Why was Jeff Ireland seemingly upset? The first thought is that JT is in the plans of the Miami Dolphins and an unexpected retirement may cause the team to rethink its plans possibly even draft plans (perhaps they are targeting Jake Long). Or two, they team plans to receive good value for the All-pro DE on draft day if in fact they take Chris Long, DE.
Something does not seem right here. One way or the other, it is Jason Taylor who is at the center of the Dolphins plans, one way or the other.
In other news, the NFL has approved the use of the defensive radio signals similar to the offensive QB. Two players can be designated to where the headset helmets on the field but only one defensive player can be on the field with that helmet at one time. Many speculate outside of NE that the Patriots have used similar systems in the past…I don’t buy that. If nothing else, giving the Patriots another “legal” form of communication is not a great idea…of course that should fuel more complaints of lost signals in Foxboro now.
