Dolphins Pull A Reach Out Of Their Pocket

With so many players still on the board, falling from rounds 1 and rounds 2, the Miami Dolphins begin the day trading the first pick in round 3 to Detroit moving down 2 spots and gaining a 6th round pick.  With that 3rd round pick, the Dolphins pulled a reach pick out of their pocket.  Leaving many fans saying WTF?

With the pick the Dolphins drafted DE Kendall Langford from Hampton.  Pushing 300 pounds, Langford is a big DE who will fit in the 34.  He was projected by most as a 5th round pick.  The Dolphins have drafted 2 DE’s so far in this draft and have yet to move Jason Taylor, something that appears unlikely.

Miami drafted 2 DE’s….. that fit the 3-4.  They have nothing to do with Taylor since he’s playing outside.  If Miami wants a true pass rusher, then can pick one up next year instead of trying to force one now on day 2.  Miami can get a top CB in the off season and target a guy like George Selvie next year.

I like the Langford pick.  There arent too many quality BIG (non-tweener)  3-4 DE’s in this draft, and Kendall might prove to be a great sleeper.  For the LB’s to thrive, Miami HAS to have these Bigger guys up front. If they can add a hog in the middle, they can be a front 3 that’s feared for years.

You’re right though…. he is a bit of a reach and might be available later, but we have other needs that have to be addressed in the 4th (guard like you say) and dont have a 5th round pick.  If he were from a USC, would he even be available in the 3rd round?
