Phins Sign 3 Draft Picks, 1 UCFA

The Miami Dolphins are the only team to have a first round pick under contract and now they are the first team to have multiple draft picks signed agreeing to terms today on 3 of their 8 remaining draft picks.

6th round pick Jalen Parmale out of Toledo, 6th round pick Lex Hilliard of Montana, and 7th round selection Lionel Dotson a DE from the University of Arizona all signed multiple year deals.  Parmale and Hilliard are competing for RB spots as well as special teams.

In addition to the 3 draft pick signings, the Phins officially announced the signing of offensive guard/center Steve McKinney and signed undrafted college free agent center Matt Spanos out of USC.

The signings now leave the Phins with 5 remaining draft choices left to ink.  2nd rounders Phillip Merling and Chad Henne, 3rd round pick Kendall Langford, 4th rounder Shawn Murphy, and 6th rounder Donald Thomas.

Nice to see draft picks being signed well before training camp. It seemed the past number of years we wouldn’t hear anything about signings until it was really close to camp. Nice to see we FINALLY have football people running the show!

Can’t complain about this one. The faster they can get these kids into camp the faster they can figure out what they can bring to the team. Refresh my memory, who is Donald Thomas and what position does he play?

Another OG. Should make the team simply based on the fact that we don’t have a lot of O Lineman to begin with.

Brian, what do you expect out of these two RB’s will one play FB the other RB…Will both play RB? Were they brought in for Special Teams?

    Matt:

I have heard both are capable of playing FB but I believe that it was Hilliard who was more likely, could be the other way around. One of them will likely be a ST player but both could make the team. Unfortunately it could be a signal that Mauia will have to fight for a roster spot. With the Phins likely in position to take 3 RBs and an FB into the season, the RB spot will be interesting when you get past RB and RW at 1 and 2.
