Matt Ryan Signs For Record Deal
Good thing the Miami Dolphins didn’t wait until after the draft to try and ink LT Jake Long. According to Adam Schefter, the Atlanta Falcons have signed first round pick, number 3 overall, QB Matt Ryan to a record deal.
The Birds signed the rook to a 6 year deal worth 72 million, 34 of which is guaranteed. The numbers are more than what Jamarcus Russell was given by the Raiders last year as the number 1 overall pick.
While the obvious contention is that QB’s make more than any other position, even as untested rookies, the fact that a number 3 slot overall is making more than the number 1 overall a year prior will add more fuel to an already boiling cauldron of escalating rookie salaries that the owners are trying to cap.
Imagine what he would have got had he gone number 1 overall? I shutter at the thought.

This is exactly the reason why I was pleasantly surprised when the Dolphins ended any speculation with the drafting and signing of Jake Long.
