No More Excuses JT
It has been all of 1 day since I called out the Miami Dolphins fans for their lack of support of one Jason Taylor. I called out the executive branch of the Miami front office and the NFL as well. I stood up, and clapped my hands loudly at the current holder of the Walter Payton Man of the Year award winner. Now, it appears that JT is not quite ready to get back to football afterall. Sure makes me look like a fool. Sort of. Well, no more excuses JT. Why are you not in Miami?
While I still do not waiver on the fact that I support what JT is doing with his non-football career, it seems that with tonights Dancing With The Stars finale, an event that is now looking more and more unlikely to hear his name announced as a winner, in fact he may not even make it to the final two after his combined 51 last night dropped him to 3rd. Seriously though JT, if you want people to realize that your heart is still in football, then the least you can do is not disrespect those of us who actually agree with you not being in Miami the last 16 weeks.
According to Jason, on a blog for ESPN, after tonights “Grand Finale” show, he will head to NY to be on the networks morning show…o.k., that’s perfectly understandable. Then, instead of heading south to Miami for the teams OTA’s, Jason will be flying back to L.A. Presumably for a golf tournament.
Jason says that he will not attend the OTA’s but will not miss any of the mandatory schedules. A great message to send to the young guys on this team, and make no mistake there are plenty of them. Jason had his personal priorities in the right order when he started this dancing gig, now, it’s time to get his proffessional priorities in order as well. That means rejoining your team. If this is a Jason Taylor sponsored golf event than to an extent I may understand, but if this is for appearence…then your priorities need to be reorganized. When Bill Parcells gets pissed about this one, I’m afraid he has more than one leg to stand on.

I’ve been back and forth on the whole JT issue. I understand why people react positively and negatively to JT dancing in LA. Him still not showing up for the OTAs is ticking me off though. People always say he owes nothing to the team except to show up for official functions, camp, games etc. I however, think there are about 9 million reasons why he should be working out with the team. Players like JT make more money in a year than most of us will in a lifetime. If we are lucky, we get 3 weeks vacation a year. Why should it be different for a guy that can retire and live a life of luxary at 35 years of age? Why does JT get to do WHATEVER he wants, when he wants? Doesn’t 8 or 9 million dollars entitle the team to expect him to participate with the team? It sure would be nice to have 4 or 5 months of vacation every year, but realistically who does…well, besides spoiled overpayed atheletes?!?
May 20th, 2008 at 2:02 pmDon’t forget the golf appearance…
May 20th, 2008 at 2:06 pmBrian it’s The Principal Charity Classic, http://www.principalcharityclassic.com/, and it’s in Iowa. Of course, it’s not until the 28th, so apparently, he won’t be in Miami after the morning show circuit and his “personal business” in LA, either.
May 20th, 2008 at 2:46 pmThen again, according to JT, he doesn’t have to be there because he’s a “leader by example”.
Yeah, that egg doesn’t taste very good.
May 20th, 2008 at 3:30 pmYou’re still right about the team/NFL dropping the ball on the good ink.
May 20th, 2008 at 4:37 pmAnd JT is still entitled to do other things, just like the Trifecta is entitled to want him with the team. Hopefully, the “media” will stop painting him with that “Leader” brush…
Personally I prefer my leaders to lead from the front. I don’t mind guys skipping camps if they have long term durability issues but Talyor doesn’t have those. This is a new start for the team - if he really believes he’s a leader then he should be there.
