What Was The Worst Event In Phins History?

That is the question. So often we visit a team site and see vote after vote on who is the best player in a franchises history. For the Miami Dolphins there is little question that it is Dan Marino. Even adding Don Shula into the mix would only serve up a two man race. Why go through weeks of voting when you can battle it up with those two? Want to know number 3? Larry Csonka of course. So really is there a point in doing yet another one? No.

Some sites go as far to do a “best of” anything or maybe the biggest draft bust. What about history though? What about the worst events that have shaped, changed, or influenced an entire generation of fans, a franchise, or even an event that changed the way the NFL governed it’s teams? Now that might be interesting.

Below are 16 of the worst events in Miami Dolphins history. Your job is to get 16 down to 1. Starting today, you will vote on one match-up per day. Each match-up has a 4 day window in which to cast your votes. We will continue this until round 1 is complete. Then on to round 2 and finally we will crown our well not so glorious champion.

The first match-up begins today!

One terrible moment in dolphin history that IMO, was missed. 12/21/1974, miami at oakland, playoff game. 26 seconds left, Kenny Stabler in the grip of Vern den Herder, throws a wounded duck of a pass that should have been picked off, goes between three dolphins defenders, caught by Clarence Davis in the end zone. Oakland 28, Miami 26. Miami’s streak of three superbowl appearances ends, but even more inportantly, this marked the end of the early 70′s dynasty. A heartbreaker of a play, and the team would never again hit such heights.

Doc. Yeah, I completely missed that one by a mile.  In fact, your about the 10th person who brought that up.  Since we have not advanced that far in voting, I have taken out the Ricky Williams trade and put that in…since I have Ricky’s retirement/suspension listed.
