Who Is The Best NFL Rivalry?

It’s a fair question.  NY vs. Miami?  Dallas Vs. Washington?  Green Bay and Chicago?  The list could go on and on and on.  In reality though, it all depends on who you root for.

My good friend, Matt Loede, over at NFLGridironGab.com asked that very question.  While the results might surprise you in his NFL round table discussion about that very question, the final answer, while less obvious, will still get your juices flowing, and that itch will start needing a good scratch.  With the Miami Dolphins opening the season Vs. the N.Y. Jets…the relevance of his discussion can’t be missed.  Oh, and you may find the author of the AFC East discussion a tad bit familiar.  Check it out here.

Thank you for the very in depth reply.

Seriously, only a Phins fan can put NY vs Mia on any rivalry list.  And the disclaimer, “In reality though, it all depends on who you root for.” sums it up nicely. This is coming from the son of a Mia fan who attended one of the greatest MNF games ever, Nov. 20, 1978, Miami at Houston. I was rooting for Mia against my hometown team.

Well the concept was inter-division rivalries.  In the AFC East, the Jets and Phins have had a more intense rivalry than the other two.  The games usually ended in a shoot out.  However, as I stated, it always seemed to be everyone trying to knock off the Phins for so long that the rivalry would shift.  From Buffalo in the 90′s, the Patriots in the late 80′s, it’s a carousel for sure.  To pick one, I still think it would be the Jets as it began with Shula’s loss in SB III.

Moto did you read the article on his site?  That might sum up the misconception of why you think I would pick NY vs. Mia over any of the others such as GB/Chi Dal/Wash and so on.  It was an AFC East piece I wrote for them.  I linked to that article but didn’t want to leave it up on this site in fairness to them.

In all fairness I only skimmed over the article from the link as I was pressed for time, thus my succinct reply. My apologies. After some research, I found that SI rated NYJ vs Mia #10 on their rivalry list which surprised me somewhat. Although I would agree with the list in general. Here’s the link,

Now that is an “all Time” list. I would think Ind vs NE would have to make a current rivalry list. Give us your thoughts.
