Dan Marino Vs. Jamar Fletcher

Qb Vs. should have been QB.  The Miami Dolphins were relying on the fleet foot and weak arm of Jay Fiedler the years following the retirement of Dan Marino.  Marino was the icon of south Florida sports for almost 2 decades.

APMarino retired after the 62-7 playoff loss to the Jaguars, shortly after HC Jimmy Johnson bowed out and left the team in the hands of Dave Wannstedt.  While Marino was nearing the end of his playing ability, some fans will argue he had passed that already, Dave Wannstedt felt that if Marino wanted to stay in Miami as a Miami Dolphin, he could do it with a clipboard if Jay Fiedler beat him out.

After spurning an offer from the Minnesota Vikings on a one year deal, Marion announced his retirement from the NFL.  Neither Jimmy Johnson or Dave Wannstedt would be present at the public press conference.

While Marino’s exit left open the door for DW to employ his hand picked QB in Jay Fiedler, the Dolphins spiral toward mediocrity began when year after year DW chose against drafting a QB.  Draft day came and Miami Dolphins fans everywhere cheered when QB Drew Brees fell.  “The Pick is a Brees” some fans at the NFL Draft chanted.  It was the name Jamar Fletcher that ultimately sealed the fate of the fan support and the franchises direction.

DolphinsMakeMeCry.comJamar Fletcher, who is still in the NFL, made no progress in Miami.  After 2 seasons Fletcher contributed nothing to the organization and was traded to San Diego in a deal for oft troubled WR David Boston.  Drew Brees, who was the QB in SD at the time is considered one of the top 7 QB’s in the league, been to the pro-bowl, and took the New Orleans Saints one game shy of the Super Bowl.

Which of these two proved to be the worst moment in Dolphins history?
