Jason Taylor No Longer A Phin…TRADED!

AUTHOR: Txmedic5 | IN: Breaking News | COMMENTS: 10 Comments |

The Miami Dolphins did what they said they would not do, they traded the reigning NFL Man of The Year Jason Taylor to the Washington Redskins.  Taylor goes to the Skins for a 2nd round pick in the 2009 NFL draft and a 6th round pick in 2010.  Jason Taylor is no longer a Phin.

While the news may surprise some, the fact that the Dolphins have been rumored over the past few months to be quitely shopping the star DE, the news comes only hours after Skins DE Phillip Daniels was lost for the season with a knee injury during todays first training camp practice.

The trade of Taylor ends an 11 year career with the Dolphins and brings an end to the longest tenured Phin.  Taylor is the last member of the team drafted by Jimmy Johnson making Yeremiah Bell the longest tenured veteran originally drafted by the team.  Taylor who two years ago was the Defensive Player of the Year, faltered last year under 1 year HC Cam Cameron while the Dolphins went 1-15.  Taylor join a Washington Redskin team who made the playoffs last year in a very heated NFC East division.

Taylor who has been at odds with Dolphins head of football operations Bill Parcells, has skipped all mini-camps, offseason workouts, mandatory and otherwise.

More will follow on the trade of the Miami Dolphins fan favorite on Monday.

In the meantime, tell us your thoughts on the trade between the Redskins and Dolphins.

  1. Matt says:

    Now that it happened, I am torn…I think it was the best deal we could have gotten, but to give up the best player on your team for a 2nd rounder is very tough…

    In my opinion, that 6th pick should have been a 4th, but regardless now the cap space is saved and we got a pick for next year

  2. Loving says:

    I think the trade is bitter sweet. I am glad this soap opera is finally over. I don’t think the dolphins could have got much more for the 34 year old. Hopefully with the picks we can get some quality young talent on the team for years to come.

  3. HawkFinFan says:

    Hate to see Taylor go, but two picks is better than the old way of doing business, trading for bad players and giving away picks.  Going to the Skins, like Thomas going to the Cowboys, keeps them out of the division and they have probably three years at the most to play. Now if we can turn the corner and get the young guys to turn into something……figure 3-5 wins this year, then who knows??

  4. Shady says:

    I’m with ‘Loving’ on this one. Sad to see JT go but the media circus trailing around with him is the kind of attention we don’t need right now. We’ve picked up a second for a 34y/o which people said was unlikely/impossible a few months back. Best outcome all round really.

  5. Brian Miller says:

    I agree with all of you.  The fact that JT is gone frees the team from the media circus of him not attending training camp.  This is best for the team and the player…but it is a weird feeling to not see the names Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas on the Phins roster.

  6. WestCoastSkins says:

    At least you guys can say your players left for some of the best teams in the NFL and hopefully walk away with a ring after their decorated careers. I just hope Taylor is as good at LE as he is at RE

  7. Brian Miller says:

    No offense WCS but I’m not so sure that even with Taylor that the Skins are a guaranteed lock for the playoffs.  I think there are still some questions on offense that must be answered and you all are in one of the toughest divisions.  Might be a matter of what some of the other NFC teams can do as opposed to what the Skins will do.  IMO.  Not bashing.

  8. MiKE G says:

    Welker = Satele
    Chambers = Henne
    Taylor = ///
    Lets just hope that the Redskins finish 3-13 and we finish 4-12 and we end up with the 2nd pick overall and the first two picks of the 2nd Rd. And with 4 wins we are still WAY better that last season ( i hope we sweep the jets and split with the CHEATroits and the Toronto BIlls.

  9. Brian Miller says:

    As much as I would love to root for JT and his new home, I would rather have a high 2nd round pick instead.  Here’s to a horrible Redskin season.

  10. MiKE G says:

    SHOCKEY traded to the saints that puts him up there with Gates and Witten in the Fantasy Footbal TE’s. Come on Brian thought you’d have been all over that. JT started a wave of trades Farve will be next to the Buc’s for a 2nd Rd pick 4th Rd pick.
