There were some rumors floating around last night that the Miami Dolphins were talking with the NY Giants about a trade that would have sent Taylor to them instead of the Redskins. The catch however was that a 3rd team was involved with the talks. That team was New Orleans. When all the smoke had cleared, Jason ended up in Washington and the Giants/Saints rumor was nothing more than exactly that.
Now it appears that those rumors were in fact true. Today the NY Giants shipped Jeremy Shockey, the oft rumored TE who was “not on the trade” market to the Saints for their 2009 2nd round pick and their 5th rounder. The deal, as rumored, was for the Saints to send that package to Miami, Miami to send Taylor to NY, and Shockey to go to NO. No word on why that deal fell apart.
While the trading of Jason Taylor seems to have been the catalyst for the Shockey deal, the next in line as pointed out on another article by Mike G, is whether or not Brett Favre is next?
The Dolphins received the Redskins 2nd round pick this year and a 6th the following year apparently operating on the opinion that the Redskins picks will earn the team a higher slotting.
The trade of Jeremy Shockey also increases his fantasy football value with Drew Brees at QB who loves to throw to his TE’s.
