No reason for some play on words in the title. No reason to get all witty. Brett Favre, the unretired one, has been officially traded to the NY Jets according to several sources. Favre’s trade finally puts to rest the on again off again retirement talk, trade talk, and a whole lot of distraction in Green Bay…for now.
While the trade of Favre was a long time coming, speculation began to surface last week that the Jets were interested. NY has spent a ton of money this off-season in revamping the team in the hopes of challenging the Patriots for the division champion. With approximately 60 million guaranteed over the next few years to only a handful of players, the Jets are trying an all out win now approach.
While Favre is far from a guarantee, his leadership capabilities far exceeds what is there now. The Dolphins will get their first look at the new look Jets come opening weekend. It is more than likely that Brett Favre will be the starting QB for that game. With 4 weeks to prepare he should be ready to go.
The next question of course will be what will happen to Chad Pennington. He himself the center of rumors over the last 2 years regarding being cut by the team.
