Martin & Porter News

Miami DolphinsSometime no news is good news, in this case, for David Martin and Joey Porter, good news comes in the form of verbiage.  Both Miami Dolphins players received good news on Tuesday.

For Porter, the news is that a doctor has informed him that his ailing back will be fine with rest.  Nothing to worry about.  Porter only a couple of days ago worried openly about his career.  The 10 year veteran is showing more controlled emotional excitement than he has in years about this upcoming season.  An important cog in a pass rushing defense that is designed perfectly for the OLB.  Porter says that he will be ready to go against the Jets opening day.  While I am glad to hear the news is optimistic, chronic back pain can drop even the strongest of men.  Something as simple as back spasms has put Hall of Famers to the bench and some into retirement.

David Martin on the other hand will see more action for Miami.  Head Coach Tony Sparano said yesterday that both he and fellow TE Anthony Fasano have made the team.  That is a good indication of the TE’s improvement from last year and from earlier in the off-season.  Even in the early portions of training camp, Martin seemed to be dropping more than he caught.  A leash will still likely be reigned around Martin and should his case of the drops resurface, he could find himself out of a job.  For now though, he made it.
