The Miami Dolphins are so pleased with the transition to LB by Matt Roth that on Monday, head coach Tony Sparano said it was “permanent“. The Roth move, who earlier this off-season seemed more on the bubble of making the team, has excelled at the stand up running stopping left side of the defense. His success means a move is in store for LB Joey Porter.
Porter has declared himself healthy and feeling good and is expected to play against the NY Jets on Sunday. There also is no doubt that he wants to play his more natural position lining up across from the LT on the right side of the defense.
“That’s my side. I’ve been playing on that side my whole career. I’m happy to get back to where I belong at.” Said Porter adding furthter “”I’ve lined up against the best tackle since I’ve been playing. We made the adjustment when Jason left,” said Porter, who was limited to two exhibition games because of a sore back and knee. “You put your next best athlete over there and let him have that job. I welcome it. That’s a challenge I welcome every Sunday.”
Fans will get their first look at the most expensive Miami Dolphins this Sunday as the game was moved to the CBS National telecast after Pennington signed with the Dolphins and Favre with the Jets. Porter has not been running his mouth much since the arrival of Bill Parcells something that for Porter can’t be easy. Perhaps the NY Jets will provide a nice outlet for that pent up frustration.
