How Does It Feel?
The Miami Dolphins took the field today and were not expected to win. Much like 2 weeks ago against the Patriots the Miami Dolphins were underdogs. Instead, when the final second ticked off, it was Chad Pennington taking a knee. The Miami Dolphins, for the 2nd time in a row have beaten a playoff contending team. This time, 17-10.
The Dolphins have now faced all 4 parts of the NFL spectrum. They have played the come from behind game against the Jets and came up short. They played on the losing and then the winning half of a blowout, and now, they have had to stave off the charges of the opposition to preserve a 4th quarter lead.
These Dolphins do not realize that they are supposed to be losers. They are too young and too naive to know that they still have growing to do. They are too young to realize that they are not supposed to be winning. Yet they are.
Today’s victory was a total effort by everyone on the team. While I will rip the play of Ted Ginn on Monday, he at least caught a crucial 3rd down reception to help secure the game. Still, despite Ginn’s performance in some aspects of the game and a kick-off return fumble by rookie Davone Bess ( only the 2nd turnover of the year), the Miami Dolphins played a great game against a very solid team.
I will not go so far as to say that the Miami Dolphins are back, but they sure as hell are not last years team either.

Looks like we might have a football team on our hands folks!
October 5th, 2008 at 4:49 pmWell, Ted seems to have learned how to catch but…
RUN FORWARDS!!!!
Oh, and can someone point out to him that you only run OOB when you need to stop the clock, not when you’re trying to burn time *bangs head against wall*
October 5th, 2008 at 5:29 pmExactly Shady. This guy has no clue and on top of that he is afraid of contact. No business in the NFL if your afraid of getting hit
October 5th, 2008 at 5:37 pmWell….
I know it’s not his fault he was drafted in the 1st but you’d expect ANY WR to understand the concept of staying inbounds when you need yards or hitting the side when you need to stop the clock.
Kid needs to stop being afraid of getting hit. Maybe they should let Roth and Porter to take big shots at him in practice to get him used to contact.
October 5th, 2008 at 5:44 pmI think the issue of him being afraid of getting hit is caused by his closeness with Chris Chambers : he must have told him about the lick he received in Denver a few years back, and the risk not being worth the effort…
October 5th, 2008 at 7:06 pmwhat a game! the only thing that would have been better is if my little girl knew what was going on!
October 5th, 2008 at 9:25 pmBeing afraid is one thing, but avoiding hits when you are his size is just the right thing to do. Hell, ANY WR should avoid taking hits if at all possible. Now, the running out of bounds is a thing that bothered me, however, Ronnie did it the play before (or a couple of plays before but on the same drive). He did RUN over the defender, but he could have stayed in bounds if he wanted to.
October 5th, 2008 at 11:42 pmYeah, running out of bounds like that is not acceptable. I do have to point out though, that Ted Ginn has NOT dropped any passes (that I can think off) this year or last year. Fasano had a huge drop on 3rd down that could have been a crucial play. Fortunately the D really stepped up again today.
Not excusing Ginn, but Brian, if you’re going to call the guy out tomorrow remember your boy Fasano and his huge drop. At least Ginn held on to the ball on a really good third down catch late in the game.

October 6th, 2008 at 5:20 amAvoiding a hit is one thing, avoiding a hit and running away from the defender is another. He ran out of bounds 3 yards shy of the 1st and the defender. Didn’t try and dive, try and make a move, he just looked up saw the defender and IMMEDIATELY turned out of bounds without even trying. It was gutless.
Tx,
I must disagree on Ginn. He is getting better each week. While he should not have run out of bounds we need to remember he has only played WR for a few years. He is vastly improved vs last year. He is running better routes, and has very good hands. Not one drop all year. He has gone in the middle and caught the ball in traffic, he also goes into the air yesterday (all WR’s know they could get killed when the go straight up) and came down with the ball, both feet in, and a huge 1st down. People need to quit ripping the kid and be supportive. 53 men play on that team that has now beaten the two teams that played to be in the SB last year.. The phins will win and lose as a team. Ted Ginn is one of those 53 guys, and THEY ALL deserve a pat on the back. I think this blogging thing is going to your head, you’re starting to sound much more like a reporter looking for a news flash then a fan.. On a final note, our team is not very deep at WR, if I’m Ginn I’m running out of bounds instead of ending up on IR too!!
October 6th, 2008 at 5:17 pmA reporter because I speak my opinion? LOL…ok. I gave Ginn props for his catch, but I’m sorry I call it like I see it and I don’t think that Ginn has “vastly” improved.
No need to apologize for your opinion. But you have pointed it out on several occasions that the guy is new to the position and is still very raw. Ronnie Brown ran out of bounds the same series after getting enough yards for the first, he also could have stayed in. I’m not saying Ginn made a good play, but I don’t agree that he is soft or afraid of contact - I think he is young and still learning a lot about the game.
As for my reporter comment, I have read many of your posts and comments on the phins over the last 6 plus years. One thing you’ve always been is fair and accurate with your info. You usually avoid bashing a player, especially after a win and a decent outing.. I’m a little surprised to read your comments on Ginn, it just doesn’t sound like the txmedic I’m read in the past.
That being said we can agree to disagree.
October 6th, 2008 at 7:30 pmIda: I’m not bashing Ginn, I stand by my remarks about him learning to play the game. I am not calling Ginn out for playing a piss poor game. I’m calling Ginn out for what i consider to be a chicken chit cowardly move…TWICE. He does the same things on punt returns where he will run to the sideline and if he can’t turn it up field he runs out of bounds. Here is what he reminded me of yesterday with those two plays. The Karate Kid. The first time he stepped on the mat at the end of the movie at the competition, as soon as his opponent came after him he backpedaled.
Ida: Two more things as well. 1, yeah we can agree to disagree…:)
I was mumbling to myself on the play as well. It’s been so long that we’ve played two good games in a row that I just want to look at the positives and not the negatives. Crap, there’s a reason why they call me I da homer.. Glass always half full, even when it’s empty. I think the last few months of reading posts on the herald drilling Ginn (and everyone else depending on the games outcome) has just soured me a bit. I want the kid to shut everyone up so I can say I told you so.. I’ve been wrong more often then right when defending the phin players over the past few years. I even thought AJ Feelmee was the answer, so my comments are usually more born from the gut, not the brain.. LOL
Like I said, I come here to read your excellent insight (my compliments in that area) and was a little shocked to see something negative on anyone considering the outcome of the last few weeks. You’re doing what you’re supposed to do, which is tell it like you see it. I have a tendency to tell it like I feel it instead.
October 8th, 2008 at 11:20 amAnd one last comment. The karate kid ends up kicking a$$ when in the end.. Let’s hope Ginn does the same..
