It wasn’t a pretty game by any stretch. The Houston Texans seemed to be able to move the ball up and down the field at will, they only beat themselves it appeared. The Dolphins finally found a bend but not break defense in the 2nd half and their offense finally woke up long enough to take a 28-23 lead with just under 2 minutes left in the game. The Miami Dolphins however failed to close the game out.
With the team lucky to be on the leading edge in the final minute, the Dolphins could not shut down the Houston offense. Starting the final drive with a sack, then two incomplete passes, the Texans would hit Andre Johnson for a 15 yard catch on 4th down to extend the drive, then again on 4th and goal, Matt Schaub the Texan QB would run the ball in with 3 seconds left. Leaving the Dolphins sitting with a loss for the 3rd time this season.
The Texans have never lost to Miami and on 3 occasions now have beaten the Phins in the final seconds. The Dolphins have no excuses for giving up 76 yards in a minute and 38 seconds. They will go home an under .500 team to start prepping for Baltimore.
The Dolphins led for most of the game and at one point led 14 – 3. A punt return for a touchdown left the Dolphins nursing a 1 point lead at halftime that dissipated to a swap of scores in the 3rd that put the Texans up by 6 and then the Dolphins up by one. The scoring led to a 5 point lead with the seconds ticking away when the previously winless Texans found 76 yards not insurmountable.

Well, we knew the secondary was still a big issue but, and I don’t know about anyone else, I’d forgotten just how bad they were.
379yds on just 22 completions including a few that really should’ve been broken up such as the 3rd and 2 at the death that was thrown in to Allens(?) numbers and dropped.
At least it keeps their feet on the ground and the Phins in line for somewhere in the 11-15 range for the 1st round next year. Back to scouting the CB class of ‘09 I guess
This team never fails to suprise me. I guess our team has peaked at two wins. The season isn’t going to get any easier from here. This team is going to keep sucking until we get some solid corner backs and some recivers worth a damn. The trade deadline is 2 days away and I am willing to bet parcells fat ass won’t get off of any of those picks and try to trade for someone worth a damn. I predict our record will be 2 and 14. I also predict we will have another new coach next year. Parcells will probably bolt after this season to.
I can see someone isn’t happy about the loss…by any means. LOL
oh my gosh nfldolphin don’t be so negative! my man its not THAT bad – yeah I’m very disappointed by the DBs and WRs but Rome wasn’t built in a day – I see the Phins as more of a 7-9 team – they have weakness as we know but they can cover it up by running the ball really well & keeping time of possession and getting a lot of pressure on the QB – I actually think they were hurt today by some of the big plays – sure they were great but I’d rather have a 12 play drive that eats up 7 min.
Yeah, I don’t think we need to talk about a new coach next year!! I’m guessing nfldolphin is being sarcastic. Hope so anyway!!
Has Sparano been perfect? No. But he is still a rookie HC and has been far more impressive than his predecessor.
Now, the reality of the game. Our secondary absolutely got lit up by the Texans. NO ONE played well in the secondary. Bell should have knocked that ball at the end instead of going for the pick. R. Hill was terrible. We need help here, but we all knew that. Our draft and FA this year was to build the trenches which we have done. Next year is time for the fluff. DBs and WRs next year will be the main focus…maybe a LB or two as well.
Special teams is horrible!!! Return game and coverage game is unacceptable. Two big returns given up today killed us. Special teams need to be taken out behind the shed and shot!! And I still cannot for the life of me figure out why Ginn is not returning kicks. I like Bess as a WR but he is brutal on returns. Why was Ginn back there at the end of the game when you need a miracle? Is it because he is the only returner on the team that is a threat to take it to the house? If so, why is he not out there everytime?
BTW Brian, I am in total agreement with you on Ginn. One catch for -1 yards is not OK!!!!! I still hope for the guy, but I am officially off the Ginn wagon until he shows something. At least let the bum return kicks.
On a positive note, our O put up 28 points. The new wrinkle in the wildcat was beutiful and we moved the ball at the end when we needed to. We could be very good on offense with a really threat at WR!! We are doing well now with basically one WR in Camirillo. Fasano was a let down again this week, but Martin is still continuing to play solid football.
Finally, it is really nice to see Joey Porter playing at a high level again. Porter may not have had the stats but he was huge yesterday and had a big impact on several key plays. Too bad no one else on D really showed up!
Oh well, the honeymoon of beating the two AFC Championship game opponants is over…..on to face Baltimore. I say we rebound from this and come out flying next week. If you’re looking for the glass is half full scenerio, maybe we needed this at this time as a little bit of a reality check.
