What More Can Porter Do?

by Breaking News

If you ask Joey Porter a question, you will get a wry smile and then an answer you likely wouldn’t have expected. He will tell you what you want to hear and then some.  No mincing of words.  So it really is no surprise that when asked about what else he has left to do this season, he hinted that the season sack record is a possibility.

Joey said that he would get 10 sacks this season, he has 10.5 already 7 games into the season so he has kept that end of his promise, now the 22.5 record held by Michael Strahan is possibly his next target.  With 9 games remaining on the schedule Joey will likely target wins more than he will a sack number, but rest assured that opposing QB’s should be ready and weary of the LB who is reborn this season and quickly becoming a fan favorite.

Today, the NFL announced that Joey Porter is their “Defensive Player of the Month” not week…MONTH.  That is a tremendous accomplishment for a team that is so far into a transition and rebuild process that it’s a testament to the leadership of the veterans on the team such as Joey Porter.

The Dolphins will travel to Denver this week where Porter will face off against a highly regarded rookie lineman, but it will be Jay Cutler that will be casting his eyes to the outside as Porter will disguise his blitzes and try to add to his already league leading sack total as he inches closer to the possibility of eclipsing the league season mark.

we're on the same page. i've been saying this for a while. i can't wait til the henne/ginn days!

To me this is another clear example of putting players in the position that they can thrive in.  Joey Porter is more healthy then last year, but that isn't what the biggest change is, the biggest change is putting him back in a position where he has favorable matchups the majority of the time.

I truly feel this is the same problem with Ginn.  Last week we FINALLY put Ginn in his element.  We threw long early gaining the respect of the DB, this opened up the stop go stop routes later on, as well as the deep slant.  McGhee knew he was lucky Ginn didn't score on the first play of the game and realized he had to give him some cushion.  We need to use Ginn the in a way that allows him to use his best weapon - SPEED..  If defenses don't think we'll go long to him, they can take all the other routes away as well.  I hope the coaching staff realized something last week.  Ted Ginn is a weapon, and as he gets more opportunities his confidence and productivity will increase as well.  This is why I truly believe we won't see the best of Ted Ginn Jr. until Henne is the starting QB, because his arm strength will give Ginn the additional time and depth in his routes he needs to play the game that makes him a weapon, just like Porter is now playing the type of game that allows him to be a playmaker on that side of the ball.
