The Dolphins did not get good news on WR Greg Camarillo yesterday, out for the season with an ACL tear. Now fans and coaches alike await the injury news on LT Jake Long. Long injured his ankle in the second half of Sunday’s loss to the Patriots.
The rookie his having a fantastic season and is the leading vote getter in the fan voting for the AFC’s LT spot in the Pro-Bowl balloting. Head coach Tony Sparano was asked about the injury status and his condition in a press conference yesterday. Sparano said he didn’t know the status of that injury and that they would “have to wait and see”.
The loss of Camarillo was huge, but as productive as Greg was, he is replaceable by a Davone Bess…not in production but in offensive continuity. A loss of Jake Long could have devastating affects on the offense though.
From the Wild Cat formation that sees Long lining up outside of RT Vernon Carey, to the backside blocking for Chad Pennington’s blind side on passing downs. All will be shifted to another lineman on a unit that has very little depth. When Long went down on Sunday, it was Ikechuku Ndukwe who was moved from RG to LT…not exactly the move you want to make.
So with bad news already reported this week, the wait apparently isn’t over for more.
