Miami Loses Smiley

Posted by: Brian Miller

Two weeks in a row now the Miami Dolphins have suffered a considerable injury.  This time LG Justin Smiley has been lost to a broken right leg.  Surgery will likely be performed on the break that is located near the ankle.  He will be placed on IR this week.

The Fins have lost two major contributing starters in successive weeks last week losing WR Greg Camarillo to a knee injury.  The losses of both will put into jeopardy the Phins run at the playoffs.  The Fins are thin on the offensive line and will face the Bills, Chiefs, 49′ers, and speed rushing NY Jets to finish out the season.

The Phins were the healthiest team in the NFL with little or no injuries to report most of the season.  Both injuries were freak plays.  Smiley’s injury came in the first quarter when a Rams defender rolled over the lineman’s leg.

The Phins signed Al Johnson off the free agent list prior to Sunday’s game and will now likely begin working out more players this week to fill the roster spot of Smiley.  The Dolphins remain one game back of the wildcard chase.
