I know, a win is a win is a win and an ugly win is just as good as a blowout. Still, that does nothing for the sellout crowd at Dolphins Stadium or the hordes who watched the Miami Dolphins once again take a game down late in the 4th quarter.
The offense was anemic, the defense bent but never completely broke, and Will Allen totally sucked against an aging WR who should be watching football from his living room instead of gaining over 70 yards on Sunday. Either way you look at it, the Dolphins are 9-5 and still hold a share of first place with the NY Jets who needed four quarters themselves to come back for a win against the Bills.
Miami moved the ball on their second to last possession to set up Dan Carpenter for a 49 yard field goal that would have given Miami an 8 point lead. His kick bounced off the crossbar coming up an inch short and once again setting up the defense for a final minute stop. The defense has not given up a TD in the last 3 games since facing the New England Patriots.
Joey Porter, quiet most of the day…physically…made the final defensive tackle, his first and only sack on Shaun Hill. The 9′ers kept the game close enough to make a last ditch drive late 5 points down. They took it to the Miami 20 but stalled and ended with the J-Peezy sack.
While Fins fans continued to feel their chest thumping in the second half as the 9′ers controlled over 36 minutes of the game to the Phins 15, the watchful eyes also turned to a Detroit/Indy match that until late was tied at 21. A loss by Indy would have shaken up the wildcard race.
For Miami, they move to 9-5 and will face the Kansas City Chiefs in KC next week before their season ending possibly division deciding game against NY.
