The Miami Dolphins may have had their season prematurely ended by the now eliminated Baltimore Ravens, but they are not sitting by waiting for the free agent period to begin. No, instead, they have aWAKEn a monster. A monster pass rush specialist from the CFL. The Phins have signed 2 time CFL Defensive Player of the Year and DE/OLB Cameron Wake.
Wake, a product of Penn State was signed by the NY Giants in 2005 but was released and went on to play for the BC Lions. The 26 year old, born Derek Cameron Wake, was in Davie last week for a workout. Several NFL teams wanted to take a look at the BC standout but it was the Phins who landed the pass-rusher.
The Dolphins think so highly of the product that they signed him with a 1 million dollar signing bonus and a 4 year contract that could be worth as much as 4.9 million. The Phins struggled with pressure on the QB aside from Joey Porter and down the stretch even Porter dissappeared. Wake will not likely create a problem for the re-signing of Channing Crowder but with Terrel Suggs and Bart Scott possible free agents from Baltimore, the Dolphins LB/DE search may only be starting instead of ending.
The Phins also added former Bengal safety Ethan Kilmer. Kilmer has been with the Bengals for the last 3 years and is 25 years old. Kilmer has spent the last two seasons on IR and will have to compete for a roster spot.
