Hot News: Phins Trying To Tag Tagliabue?

The Miami Dolphins have been rumored to be looking for a new Vice Chairman now that Stephen M. Ross has taken over 95% of the team.  Rumors still persist that Ross is speaking with former U.S. Tennis Association executive Arlen Kantarian.   Kantarian is presumably being sought after for the commercial side of the organization.  The name Paul Tagliabue has not been associated with the Miami Dolphins…until now.

According to a report concerning the tax filing of the NFL, a mention has been made about the “informal” consultations of Tagliabue to Stephen Ross.  According to a Street & Smith website, Stephen Ross may be trying to coax the former Commish to join his team as that Vice Chairman.

The site says that there are “overtures” from the Miami Dolphins for Tags to join the Stephen Ross team.

The implications of such a deal could put the Dolphins in interesting water.  Consider that it was Tagliabue who pulled strings and favors with some of the top money owners in the league to get the last CBA agree upon something that the owners, including Wayne Huizenga would opt out of prior to last season.

Tagliabue also brokered the deal between the Rooney brothers to settle the differences in the sale of portions of the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Of course any hiring by the Dolphins of Tags would immediately end any and all “advising” that he has been doing.

At the same time, his presence would go a long way in making the Dolphins one of the more heard clubs in the NFL at owners meetings, league meetings, and events as well as other options that would require someone with inner working knowledge of the way the league does business.  Depending of course on what bridges he may or may not have burned upon his exit.

Current Commissioner Roger Goodell was given a vote of confidence by the former Commish to the owners prior to his election.  Goodell was well represented by Tagliabue in the process of finding his replacement and some believed that Goodell was Tagliabue’s choice from the start.

While nothing is guaranteed in regards to Tags taking on a job with the organization, the fact that they are talking and even discussing the possibility is intriguing to say the least.
