CONTRACT UPDATE: The deal is 5 years 27.5 million and has an 8 million dollar guarantee.
The Miami Dolphins were the first team last year to ink a free agent at the start of free agency. This year, they are not waiting for the clock to strike midnight. The Phins have signed street free agent Gibril Wilson formerly of the Oakland Raiders.
Wilson is 27 years old and was one of the high-profile signings that the Raiders made last off-season. He is a solid strong safety and his signing indicates that there is a better than likely chance that the Phins have given up on Yeremiah Bell who will now likely enter the free agent market.
Earlier this week it appeared that Bell was as close to a done deal as possible but late Wednesday night the Phins made the move on the younger and faster Wilson. This is the first big signing of the off-season outside of their own free agents Vernon Carey and Channing Crowder.
Wilson’s deal is for 5 years but contract terms are not yet available.
