Last night I signed off my “UPDATES” post with a bold prediction that Matt Cassel would be traded to the KC Chiefs by days end. Apparently, I should have said within the next 24 hours. NFL.com and various other outlets are reporting that the Chiefs and Patriots have agreed to a deal to send the QB to KC.
UPDATE NUMBER 2: According to Peter King, the trade gives NE only a 2nd round pick. If that is true, the Chiefs got potentially a franchise QB for next to nothing. The Patriots have been having some cap issues with the 14 mill hit by the franchise tag for Cassel. It also appears that LB Mike Vrabel is also part of this deal. Cassel and Vrabel for a 2nd round pick....WOW now that’s a steal. Looks like Billy was talking to Jerry Jones. Last year Bill Parcells took Anthony Fasano and Akin Ayodele for a 4th and now KC is robbing NE of a potential franchise QB and an all-pro 34 year old LB for a 2nd.
Details of the trade are not yet available but it was rumored that Larry Johnson could be part of the trade. The Chiefs likely wouldn’t give up a ton of draft picks. I will update you as soon as the trade specifics are available. And with that…welcome to day two of the league new year.
UPDATE: According to an initial report the Chiefs are not giving up their number 3 overall pick in the trade leading to more speculation that one of the Chiefs All-Pro’s are involved.
