More Free Agent News From The Wire

facebooktwitterreddit

Aside from writing an article that apparently has gotten a few folks in a bit of huff I have spent the better portion of the last two days trying to stay off the computer and away from the football news.  Checking to see if the Phins are making any new plans every hour I have pretty much been successful.  So I think now is a good time to update some of the NFL wire news in free agency from the weekend.  Enjoy!

  • The Phins are not likely to pursue Laveranues Coles and it appears likely that he will sign with Buffalo.  He wants around 5 to 6 million a year and the Phins won’t and shouldn’t pay that.
  • Lions DE Corey Smith and Raiders LB Victor “Marquis” Cooper are lost at sea in the Gulf of Mexico.  Coast Guard search and rescue units are searching an area of around 750 miles for a boat owned by one of the two men.  Two others were on board as well.
  • Kurt “I want to play in AZ” Warner is heading to SF to meet with the 49’ers.
  • The Patriots have finished their Matt Cassel trade and nothing is rosey in the eyes of the fans.  Even now reports continue to circulate that the Pats turned down a first round pick from KC for the QB and LB but also a 1st and a 3rd from Tampa in what would have been a 3 team deal.
  • TJ Houshmandzadeh is no longer an option for the Eagles, mainly because the Eagles don’t want him.  Housh is in Minnessotta and appears close to signing with Rick Speilman’s Vikings.
  • Former Dallas DE Chris Canty has signed with the NY Giants for 43 million with 17.5 mill guaranteed.  Canty follows on the heels of the Giants inking LB Mike Boley who was also given a rather large contract.  NY Teams spend a lot of money.  The G-Men also signed DT Rocky Bernard.
  • Colin Cole has signed a 5 year deal with Seattle for 21 million.  Cole was a  name that many Phins message boards talked about.
  • Corey Ivy who spent most of the weekend visiting the NY Jets is now heading to Tampa.
  • CB Leigh Bodden visited with the Patriots on Friday and left without a contract.
  • Ray Lewis still has no takers and it now appears that his only option may be to return to the Ravens.
  • Brian Dawkins formerly of the Eagles has signed with the Broncos.  The Broncos who signed safety and former Dolphin Renaldo Hill on Saturday are also meeting with Phins CB Andre’ Goodman.
  • CB Jabari Greer has finished his tour of Motown and is headed across the lake to Cleveland.
  • RB JJ Arrington who agreed to a deal with the Broncos on Friday apparently doesn’t like some of the written word in the deal and the RB has headed back to AZ without a deal.
  • Shaun Springs, released by the Redskins after their overkill spending spree in the first couple of hours of free agency will take his 32 year old body to New England…and his salary demands.
  • The much rumored 3 way trade involving Matt Cassel has stirred up a storm in Denver over Jay Cutler’s name being mentioned as the QB that would be traded to Detroit or Tampa.  New HC Josh McDaniels formerly the NE OC has some making up to do.
