Phins Finally Get Into FA: Set To Sign C Jake Grove

Go figure, the wife is off today and I am heading out to parade around town while she grabs this and that for a meeting she has later this week.  So, that of course means that the Miami Dolphins are going to sign a free agent.  That free agent appears to be center Jake Grove formerly of the Oakland Raiders.

Since I don’t have time to go into this much, I will say that the rumor is for 5 years.  Grove is expected to sing this afternoon and is officially in town for a visit today.  Grove is 6-4 and 300 pounds.  The Dolphins get their center and can shift their attention away from the Oline in Aprils’ round 1 draft.

What are your thoughts on Jake?

I don’t know much about Jake at this point as who really watched the Oakland Raiders.  But…I remember many people were high on him when he came out of Virgina Tech.  I like the signing.  I would love to really add playmakers in this draft and not necessarily have to draft for need.

    how old is jake?

I have the NFL ticket and after the Phins are done I allow my best friend who is a huge Raiders fan to watch his team..  He says we are getting a good center, smart and physical so if he’s not right he’ll never watch a Raiders game in my house again!!!  Welcome aboard Jake..   Two Jake’s on the O-line!!!!

  • robert

jake is 29 years old and he can be another leader on the o line and he is more physical than satele!!

  • Ross

Hopefully this kid is good, but we need to focus on more important things like signing a top notch corner back and a big timee Defensive End since we lost Goodman and Holliday.  Also we need to sign a big tiem reciever already.  i know Sparano doent think that is a necessacity but just think how much better our offense would be with a big time reciever like maybe trading for Roy Williams or making a move for Plaxico if he doent go to jail.

  • hawk9810

Ross,  reciever is not that big of problem..  We don’t need Williams or Plaxico coming in with disruptions..  There are plenty of recievers in the draft..  Jake really finished or O-line and we can now focus on OLB-DE-CB and WR in the draft..

  • Ross

Lets be realistic here, we had a lucky year and as a fan I did not expect such great year.  But we are faced with a very difficult schedule this year and we are need to get better.  I completly understand that we are in a rebuilding phase and its important to build a team from the ground up by making smart draft picks but there are several free agents out there who can make an immediate impact while teaching the newcomers the ways.   I dont think that we can fill the holes by drafting a CB, OLB, DE, and WR.  We need some experience especially at corner.

  • hawk9810

Okay, you are right we most certainly cannot do it all through the draft. However, I do not want to bring in a guy ( williams or Plaxico) who could be nothing but trouble.  I honestly feel that with an improved o-line and a more consistant running game our recievers can make big plays..  Bess is a stud and the only thing we lack is a tall receiver..  Hicks?   We have to be carefull not to spend too much in free agency..  And don’t forget Parcells is in charge..

  • Ross

Parcells definately knows what he is doing.  I just hope we can compete again with this tough schedule.

say it with me now people…Haaaaa Keeeem Nicks, Haaaaa Keeeeeem Nicks. solves our receiver problems then a corner and LB

  • Nick

I hope he is good as they say he is. I’ve read that he was really good in college but hasn’t played too many games lately these past two seasons. Hes been in the  league for 5 seasons and only started 46 games

According to Adam Schefter of NFL Network, Raiders center Jake Grove has agreed to a five-year, $29 million contract.  The deal includes $14.5 million guaranteed.
