Dolphins Make Trade For DT

Now don’t go jumping up and down thinking that this is some blockbuster deal here, it’s far from it.  The Phins spent a 7th round pick to acquire a 3 year veteran DT named Tony McDaniel from the Jacksonville Jaguars.  At 24 years old, McDaniel has primarily been a backup.

For the Dolphins, the team needed a bit more depth with the release of Vonnie Holliday a few weeks ago.  The Phins seem hellbent on finding as many DE/OLB hybrids as they can for their 3-4.  Some think that McDaniel can be a NT but he has not played that position since arriving in the NFL.

In his 3 years, McDaniel started only 3 games.  All last season.  He has also missed considerable time with various minor injuries.  The Dolphins had 3 picks in April’s draft but according to the Sun-Sentinel, it’s unknown which of those picks went to Jacksonville.  The trade will be finalized following a physical expected to take place on Friday.

His last three years he has not shown much but he could be a sleeper and did not cost that much. He is 6’7″ 310 lbs with a long arm reach which is really good for a defensive end. If he can stay away from injuries and can pick up the training and is motivated enough he could end up being a real steal. I am hoping the trifecta saw something really special in him besides his size that they thought with the proper training he could be really good.

Seems like a good move. He’s only 24, 6’7″,and 310 lbs. We also only gave up a 7th rounder. He could also become Jason Fergusons replacement. Who knows? The only thing I wish is that some how we could of added Wilford to the trade, so we could of sent him back to Jaxsonville. Lol
