It’s a simple statement. “I would love to play for the Miami Dolphins”. The words were uttered by the 6th overall pick of the San Francisco 49ers TE, Vernon Davis. Davis was in Miami for the Sony Ericsson Open, a tennis championship. He and his brother Vontae Davis were guests of the Williams sisters, Serena and Venus. But cheer not, Vernon is not a free agent and is not on the trade market. Vontae however is a different story.
With the draft less than a month away, Vontae Davis could be a number 25 option for the Miami Dolphins. Vontae had his private workout for the team this weekend and came away more than a little impressed.
“I like the coaching staff and who could ask for a better place to play than Miami. I would love to play for the Dolphins,” he said.
Davis, the CB, is a 5 – 11″ tackling machine who weighs 203 pounds. He was asked if he was better suited to play safety because of his physicality, he made it known that he is a cornerback who can “do all the things a cornerback can do.”
While the Phins may have some interest in Davis it is likely that several other teams do as well. Both the Saints and Patriots pick before the Phins and both teams could add a first round corner come the draft. If the Phins don’t land Davis, could a WR be an option?
Dolphins Lord over all things football Bill Parcells took a rare trip to North Carolina for WR’s Hakeem Nicks‘ pro-day. It’s unknown whether he came away impressed or not, but one thing is for certain, Parcells doesn’t travel unless he has to and that is usually up the road to a golf course.
Speaking of Bill Parcells and golf, Jason Taylor is in town for his annual golf charity event. Armando Salguero speculated in his blog today that Taylor could still rejoin the Phins if he simply decided he wanted to. While he points out that New England is still the “best spot” for JT he also said that Tampa could be a landing spot as well. JT back in Miami? I doubt it but it would be nice.
