Mock Draft: Pick 6 – Cincinnati

NOTE:  Andre’ Smith was added by the request of many.  Jeremy Maclin who has received only 4 votes was removed.  You should be able to vote a 2nd time if you choose to select Smith over your first choice.  I submitted a comment in the “comments” section as to why Smith was intentionally left off the poll.

Week 2 starts with team 6, the Cincinnati Bengals.  The Bengals allowed T.J. Houshmandzadeh to leave for Seattle and still emply irked WR Chad “Ocho Cinco” Johnson.  Could a WR be the call here?  Or is DT the pick they make?  You decide.

The first 5 picks went like this:  Matt Stafford, Jason Smith, Aaron Curry, Eugene Monroe, and Brian Orakpo.

If Jason Smith and Eugene Monroe are gone, as is the case here (and I think will be the case on draft day as well), I would put my chips down on Andre Smith. It isn’t the way I’d roll, I want to finish building the D and believe revamping the O is a multi-offseason project, but Andre is arguably the best player available and is at a position of great need.

No Andre Smith option? That’s who I have Cincy taking at #6.

I left off Smith because of his stock falling.  Many are predicting that he could fall into the late 1st or even the 2nd.  He has not done himself any favors with his workouts.  I have added him in instead of Maclin since Maclin only had 4 votes.  You can vote again.

Well, with Monroe and J. Smith gone I like Raji, so I pulled the lever for him. But the Bengals are rumored to be high on Smith, who it must be recalled was a seen as a shoe-in for the first or second overall pick coming out of school. He’s screwed up by the numbers since, but if you believe Kiper and McShay, both say his fall has been overblown, in part because Nick Saban has stuck by him publicly and privately. With the Bengals bringing in Maclin for a visit this week, speculation is rife that they are trying to entice some team to trade up for a wide receiver and then they can get A. Smith in the 9-12 range.

No doubt his stock is falling and he has done himself no favors, but put the tape on and this guy dominates. Imagine if he finds that coach that gets to him and makes him a workout monster. He has the ability to be the best LT in the NFL. I think Cincy feels they have to protect Palmer, and everything I have heard it seems like they are high on Smith.

No way Andre Smith goes here. That guy is a mess and can’t handle money. There is too much signing bonus givin this early to waste on a charater issue guy like Smith. I think Cinci is trying to get away from that bad image. Crabtree is my selection.
Palmer needs to throw the ball to someone. Once Crabtree becomes the selection, then Ocho Cinco will be on his way out of town. Cinci can get land a OT in latter rounds

  • Brian Miller

Thanks Lime, at least I know now I was right in my thinking to someone!  LOL

Palmer can’t throw the ball if they aren’t blocking for him. No denying what Smith did was stupid, but he is a kid still. He is out of the top 5 at this point so his contract wont be crazy. If you watch this guy on tape with pads on he is head and shoulders above any other tackle in the draft. Is it a chance, sure it is, but any pick is a chance as well.

Why would Cincy draft Crabtree when they just signed Laveranues Coles to go alongside Chad Johnson, Chris Henry and the other two WRs they drafted in the 2nd and 3rd round of last year’s draft?
