Mock Poll: Pick 7 - Oakland Raiders

Well, we had our first controversy yesterday with the Cincinnati Bengals and the lack of an Andre’ Smith option.  Still, I think the Bengals have had enough problems with character issues so I don’t think Smith will be taken by the Bengals come April…which of course means they will.  Michael Crabtree was awarded to the Bengals as the 6th overall pick and today we move on to another tough to call team.  The Oakland Raiders.

I am going to try and start putting some needs up as well so you have an idea of what the teams may be looking at and why.

Team needs:

OT:  The Raiders really have no offensive tackle with Khalif Barnes being the only real talent, and that’s not saying a whole lot.  To me Andre’ Smith is dropping fast, but the Raiders…well…they are the Raiders.

WR:  Ashlie Lelie and Javon Walker are their outside guys.  Enough said.  (I put Bey on the poll list because of Al Davis’ love of speed)

DT:  Last year the Raiders were one of the worst teams in stopping the run.  Unless they draft a DT at some point come April, they stand to be one of the worst again.

Should Tony Sparano be fired?

The Raiders addressed OL (Khalif Barnes, Erik Pears, Samson Satele) in the offseason and late in the season young Mario Henderson turned out to be a big upgrade over Kwame Harris at left tackle.  Raji is more UT than NT and the Raiders are happy with Tommy Kelly as a UT who restructured his contract in the offseason.  Crabtree and Maclin don’t have the blazing speed Al looks for in WR.  The pick will be Rey Maualuga which will remind Al of Bill Romanowski plus Al loves to pick guys from USC or the pick will be one of the stud DE’s (Orakpo, Brown, Johnson, Maybin) to immediatlely help Burgess and eventually replace him as he’s a free agent next year.

Well, you can’t put all the picks in a 5 name pool.  I took the most mentioned players from a variety of mock sites and broke it down from there.  Nothing is perfect…sorry.
