The New York Jets held a brainstorming session today according to a NY media report. Apparently, in true Jet fashion…they thought about too long. The Chicago Bears however did not. The two teams agreed on a trade that sends the disgruntled QB out of the AFC.
Jay Cutler will join the Chicago Bears who have been playing merry-go-round with their QB’s over the last few years. In all likelihood, he will ask for a new contract. He goes from the “Mile High” city to the “Windy City“. The Broncos and Cutler have been at odds for weeks since a leak reported that Denver was shopping him for the former NE QB, Matt Cassel.
Cassel who was had for the 2nd pick in round 2 of this year draft and had LB Mike Vrable thrown in was a steal for the Chiefs compared to what the Bears gave up for Jay Cutler. The Bears will ship there first round pick in this years draft, number 18 overall, and a 3rd round pick this year, a first round pick in 2010, AND…QB Kyle Orton. The Denver Broncos will send a 5th rounder to Chicago.
Rumors flew earlier today of a 3 way deal involving the Washington Redskins and Cleveland Browns that would have sent Brady Quinn to Denver and Jason Campbell to Cleveland with Cutler landing in DC. However, even while Jay Cutler was telling local media outlets that he was heading to Washington, the deal fell apart at the last minute and in swooped Chicago.
The Chicago Bears also made sure they had someone to protect their new QB signing free agent LT Orlando Pace. Pace was released by the Rams a few weeks ago in a salary cap move.
