Pick 15 – Houston Texans

With 10 picks to go until the Miami Dolphins are in the window, we hit the 15th pick to end the 3rd week of our mock draft polling.  Today the Houston Texans are on board.

NEEDS:

The Texans have more needs on defense than on offense and the biggest is at the LB position.  Ideally, the Texans would hope the Brian Cushing would be here with their pick, but that is not the case in this draft.  With Demeco Ryans on the inside, they Texans may decide to wait until later to add another ILB…or not.  The Texans could add another pass rushing DE although they signed one during free agency.  A RB to compliment Steve Slaton will be a priority as well.  Corner, safety, and possibly a WR although they likely will target the latter on day 2.

Any player projected to go between 15 and 32 is within the range of possibility for the Phins depending on position of course. Clay Mathews is one of those guys that Dolphin fans should keep an eye on. Although in this mock draft he’s going to the Texans, if he falls to 25 we may wait until round 2 for a WR and go with the versatile LB. But to tell you the truth the only player I’ve heard the Dolphins having private works with so far is Hakeem Nicks the WR from North Carolina. There have probably been others. If so, I would be very interested to know who those guys are.

I picked Clay in our mock draft.  If Malcolm Jenkins falls to 15, I think he’s very much in play too.  It’s possible that the Texans attempt to trade down again this year, possibly into the 21 area if someone wants to come up and grab a RB, QB, WR which the Texans won’t be picking in the 1st.  With their two first rounders, the Eagles may be a prime candidate to trade up.  Matthews definitely doesn’t fall past 26.
