SouthBeach Claims Randy Starks…Arrested

The nightlife that is known around the world simply as “Southbeach” has claimed yet another sports star.  This time around, the Miami beach front hot-spot has claimed Miami Dolphins DT Randy Starks.  Starks was arrested over the weekend on a felony charge of aggrevated assault on a police officer.

Starks who served primarily as an insurance policy last season was expected, is expected, to challenge the other DE’s for a starting roll this coming season.  With the departure of Vonnie Holliday, Starks is in line to challenge for the vacancy.

The report simply says that a Miami police officer repeatedly tried to stop the car that Starks was driving along the Southbeach strip.  13 people were crammed into a car that legally sat 4.  An unidentified woman was sitting in Starks’ lap while he was driving according to reports.  The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported that after the 2nd attempt by the officer to stop Starks, Starks accellerated and swerved pinning the officer to another car in bumper to bumper traffic.

It is unknown whether a sobriety test was administered.

The vehicle tag was also not registered to the vehicle being driven resulting in a misdemeanor charge against Starks as well.  The Dolphins had no comment on the incident.  Starks is only the 2nd Dolphin to be arrested since Bill Parcells took over the team.  The first was Reagan Mauia who is no longer with the team.

Not exactly the way I envisioned my return from vacation.

Something is wrong here. I’ve been on Ocean Drive hundreds of times, lived a block away for ten years, and never once saw the police stop a vehicle for having too many people. If they wanted to, they could have stopped 50-100 a night.

On a weekend, or any celebration, traffic is moving at 5-10 MPH. IF the officer was 80, with a cane, he may have had a problem avoiding a very slow moving bump and been pinned. Otherwise, it sounds silly.

I am not taking Starks side, just giving a little inside info on South Beach.

LOL…yeah it’s sensationalized a bit I guess…but after spending a week in rain in Orlando…not so sure I really cared much when I got home last night…:)

In honor of your vacation, this sounds like a Disney Production, aka ” A Mickey Mouse Arrest.”  :)

while that is true…if he can’t get the felony dropped he will be in trouble either way with the NFL.

Hell, if the facts are accurate, that lawyer who never won a case in the old B & W Perry Mason classic shows, could get the felony dropped.  LOL

MIAMI BEACH: Dolphins defensive end Randy Starks was arrested early Sunday after police said he struck an officer with a slow-moving Freightliner truck, according to a police report.

Starks, 25, faces a charge of aggravated battery, according to the report.

The arrest took place about 12:20 a.m. in Miami’s South Beach area.

Officers said they saw the Freightliner truck in bumper-to-bumper traffic on South Beach’s Ocean Drive with some 13 people inside, including a woman sitting on the lap of Starks, who was driving.

The truck’s seating capacity is four occupants, the police report said. It was not clear from the police report whether the Freightliner — normally part of a tractor-trailer — was connected to a trailer.

In the report, the officer recalled pursuing the truck on foot for about a half-block and pounding on the rear driver’s-side window, but it kept moving.

The officer caught up to the truck again, and it stopped after the officer pounded on the window again, the report said.

“I slowly approached the side door and just as I reached it the vehicle accelerated and started moving forward and slightly to the left,” the unidentified officer writes in the report.

“The vehicle’s path caused the driver’s side of the vehicle to strike me in the chest pushing me back and pinning me against a vehicle stopped in traffic in the northbound lane.”

Meanwhile, a second officer was pounding on the passenger’s-side window, the report said. The truck stopped and Starks was arrested.

Imagine, if you will, writing a SNL type skit on this report.

It was not clear if a trailer was connected. Those little suckers are easy to miss.

The officer pursued the 5 MPH truck on foot, pounding on the window, yelling I’m a Phins fan to, let me in. They did not.

He then, huffing and puffing, caught up to the truck again, a grueling half a block away, and thankfully it stopped.

Then, as he slowly approached, they accelerated back to 5 MPH and slightly to the left. OMG screamed the out of breath officer, as he was bumped in the chest and pinned to another vehicle standing and watching. It was a miracle he survived.

It was probablly in thanks to another officer banging on the passenger side window, yelling that he was a bigger fan, The truck stopped. No one was hurt, but someone was embarASS ed.

He is guilty of a traffic violation but the assualt I question – he had a woman on his lap while he was driving so the accelation could have been caused by accident not on purpose.Plus he probably made the police officer mad because he would not stop. There are good officers out there who can control themselves but there are also a number of Hotheads.
